Brussels is not the backyard of the United States

Celebrating an allied country is one thing. Privatizing the Parc du Cinquantenaire, a symbol of Belgian independence, for a display of United States power is something else entirely. At a time when the Trump administration is multiplying attacks against the European Union, climate policies, democratic institutions, and European interests, this staging in the very heart of Brussels sends the wrong signal from Belgium and from Europe.

Orbexit: Celebrations and challenges

After sixteen years in power, Europe’s troublemaker-in-chief suffered a crushing election defeat. The end of the “Viktator” is reason for joy, and so is the record voter turnout. Hungarian people took their country and their future back! The images of huge crowds chanting “Europe, Europe, Europe!” are so moving. Hungary gets a new start. Celebration is in order!

Volt’s Call for European Independence: Time to Build the United States of Europe

Europe is a beautiful place. A place worth defending, but a place that can still become so much better. We have 500 million citizens living in diverse societies, independent courts and fair elections, a large and advanced social-market economy, and among the highest standards of living on the globe.

We must resuscitate our democracy now

In the run-up to the June 2024 European & national elections, there was a lot of discussion on “particracy” and the necessity of democratic renewal. There were citizen initiatives such as We Need To Talk, an open letter signed by numerous prominent Belgians, and a debate in the Chamber of Representatives on the approach to party financing. But the day after the elections, all of this was forgotten.

Forum for women in politics

The public space is a place for exchanges, meetings and the co-construction of society. As such, it must be a place of representation, diversity and safety. To mark International Women's Rights Day, Volt would like to reiterate its commitment to increasing the number of women involved in politics and in society, to improving public policies to make them more inclusive and to ensuring that women have truly equal access to elected office.

Worldwide, only 27% of politicians are women. In Volt Europa, the numbers are not better.

Election Exit Polls: Volt gets 1st Dutch pan-European seat in the European Parliament

Brussels, 6 June: Exit polls in the Netherlands predict that Volt has won its first European seat in Parliament. Volt Netherlands’ lead candidates Reinier van Lanschot or Anna Strolenberg will likely become a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), together with many other Volt MEPs.
