Vote Cristan Stanuc in Saint-Gilles / Sint-Gillis

Volt Candidate #5 on list 2 - 'DéFI - Volt'

Who am I?

I'm Cristian, I'm 31 and I've been living in Saint-Gilles for 22 years. I was born in Romania. I grew up, studied, worked and got married in Brussels. I work in data analysis, but it's working in politics and interacting with citizens that makes me feel at home! I joined Volt realizing that many problems can only be solved at European level. If we truly desire solutions, the only way is to bring citizens together and find an answer together by compromising. In my free time, I enjoy reading about the world through the themes of history, economics and politics. I run regularly and spend lots of time listening to audiobooks or youtube videos.

Why am I running as a candidate?

I love my municipality of Saint-Gilles, the liveliest in Brussels. But it has many challenges! I became a candidate when I realized that day-to-day problems will be solved first and foremost by citizens. Whenever the municipality reaches its limits in guaranteeing safety or cleanliness, we, as citizens have the opportunity to meet up, organize clean-up actions, or talk about local problems. It's by creating this social bond that solutions emerge, along with a spirit of solidarity. Having been born and raised in a village, it's this model that I'd like to draw inspiration from. The commune should offer assistance whenever it's possible to assist such initiatives. If elected, I wish to directly convey people's wishes without them having to use "interpellation citoyenne". We should organize whenever possible "fêtes du quartier".

This participation equally extends to better welcome the significant foreigner population of Brussels. In places like Etterbeek or Saint-Gilles, near half the citizens are foreign and getting to know Belgians often requires an energetic and regular effort. This can be improve by targeting communication and inviting to public events that foster interaction, such as sporting events, cafés, public actions like cleanups, etc. This is not just talk: we have achieved to collect the 100 signatures required to be a party for the elections in Saint-Gilles, we have already organized cleanup actions and I do canvassing to chat with citizens daily.

I believe in making people's lives easier whenever it's possible. We should use digitalization to that effect. For example, the ease with which taxes declaration is solved in Belgium (just a few minutes) is a perfect example of the kind of efficiency that is possible, especially when compared to other countries where you may need to hire help for the same task. In that spirit, we need to keep citizens connected to their municipality by offering an app that lets you see the events, works, legislative changes that will affect everyone instead of the fragmented information space we have now.

A couple of other focuses are housing, where the amount of empty flats is hard to explain, mobility, where a compromise culture between car owners and other users needs to be improved and green spaces, where inner parks can be a solution in the case of Saint-Gilles.
