Meet Myriam. At just 18 years old, Myriam is one of the youngest among the 108 candidates standing for election this October in Tervuren. However, her path to becoming an official candidate wasn’t without its challenges. Despite being legally eligible to run, she faced unexpected hurdles: the online registration system, now mandatory in Flanders, wouldn’t allow her to sign up until she turned 18 — even though she would be of legal age on election day.
These bureaucratic obstacles have only strengthened Myriam's resolve to get involved. She is passionate about making Tervuren a more inclusive and welcoming place, particularly for young people and newcomers. Myriam has been actively campaigning in Belgium and abroad on social and political issues, close to her heart. Now she brings fresh energy and new ideas to the local election scene.
Currently in her final year of school, Myriam envisions a Tervuren that embraces all its young residents, regardless of where they study or the languages they speak. Her goal is to create a community that is more open, diverse, and supportive for everyone.
