Natalia Richardson
“Tervuren is my dream town — it’s green, with beautiful lakes and a sprawling park. It’s also perfectly located between the capital, Brussels, and the charming city of Leuven.”
Since 2008, Natalia has proudly called Tervuren home. As a mother of two, she recognizes the growing need to expand activities for all children, for those who speak Dutch but also other languages. Her commitment to inclusivity is deeply personal, and she’s determined to make Tervuren a more welcoming place for all families.
Fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, English, French, and Dutch, Natalia brings a unique set of linguistic and cultural skills to Tervuren. She is driven by a vision of fostering greater social cohesion and environmental sustainability in Tervuren, ensuring that every resident, regardless of background, feels heard and valued.
As a seasoned communications expert and journalist, Natalia has worked with some of the world's most respected media outlets, including Deutsche Welle, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and Euronews. Her reporting has centered on European Union affairs, with a particular focus on Eastern Europe and Ukraine.
Now, she is channeling her expertise and passion, running as a candidate for Volt Tervuren. Natalia is a fierce advocate for diversity, inclusivity, and sustainability, committed to ensuring that Tervuren grows as a community where everyone, regardless of their origins, feels at home.
“We need to improve transport infrastructure,” Natalia says. “Buses should run more frequently; no one should have to wait an hour. And we need to address the issue of incompatible tickets between Flanders' De Lijn and Brussels' public transport systems — it's unfair that people have to pay twice.”
Natalia has also been a strong proponent of volunteerism. Her deep love for the town is matched by her experience as an advocate on pressing global issues. Natalia has led several high-profile campaigns focused on Ukraine's war, security challenges, human rights, and civil society. These efforts have helped her build strong ties with communities and stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
